I’ve bought a record player from ebay. It’s an old Dual 601, which were made between 1974 and 1976. I haven’t spent very much on it, so if it turns out to be clapped out, it won’t be the end. If it still works, which I gather it does, it should be more than adequate for my modest audio needs. I’ve never seen one, except in photos, but I’m hoping it’s something I can develop an unhealthy attachment to in a way that simply isn’t possible with a USB hard disk full of mp3s. For the past 5 years or so I’ve stopped being a music fan, at least like I used to be. I’m to blame, but I think I my iPods should be had up on charges also.
The 601 cost $270 in its day. According to an inflation calculator, thats over $1100 in today’s money. Not that that’s how the prices of things work, of course.
